 A vacation probably means all things to all people. Generally it's the idea of getting away from The daily grind. The simplest vacation might be staying at home from work, disconnecting from all your normal communication, and just relaxing. A vacation is not taking off from work to do errands.

There are a bunch of different kinds of vacations but let's see if we can group them into simple categories.

 camping - tent or trailer 

Hotel

Nearby driving locations

Distant driving locations

Flying locations far away

Going out of the country

Self-directed vacations like fishing

Tour package vacations like Europe

Theme vacations like Disneyland

Ocean Cruise vacations like Caribbean

These groups are not clear-cut and may overlap, but they give you an idea that you're going to go somewhere and do something out of your normal routine where you pay rather than get paid. Depending on what you do your stress level may be low or high. Generally low stress vacations are more appealing. I took one vacation that involved driving fast cars, which was somewhat stressful, but then drank alcohol sitting around the pool when I wanted to. Kind of an unusual vacation but overall satisfying.
