beggars ruining my vacation

I don't know about you but being on vacation is supposed to be all about me. And of course Jesus doesn't always see it that way. After all with Jesus quite often it's all about Him. But when I'm on vacation I want to think about other people sort of as servants or as providing me with services and products. I don't mind paying for things but I want something in return. Like a margarita. Or a hotel room. Or a tank of gas.

Most people are not old enough to remember when beggars were incredibly rare and might ask for a quarter. They might ask for change. But begging in America has gone way off the chart. I had a guy actually begging me for a tank of gas. A tank of gas right now in America will run you somewhere around $50. Okay let's think this through guys. You're begging me for $50. You are begging me for a $50 bill. Something has gone way way wrong.

One time a guy was asking me for a gallon of gas in a gas can and then he had a 5 gallon can. I put about a gallon and a half in it but I could tell that he was hoping I would just fill the thing up. Okay that was in a different experience several years ago but it taught me a lesson. People have become completely dependent on just walking around saying give me stuff. This isn't America. This is not what America is about. America is about opportunity not about just walking around with your hand out. Opportunity has to do with work and providing goods and services for other people not just staring blankly and begging.
